The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development is the principal government body responsible for providing policy direction, establishing national standards, and coordinating all matters concerning lands, housing, and urban development in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:

• Policy Direction: The Ministry formulates and implements policies that guide the sustainable management of land resources, promote adequate and affordable housing, and foster orderly urban development across the country.
• Regulatory Framework: Initiates and oversees the development of laws and regulations to ensure effective land administration, property rights, and urban planning, thereby facilitating sustainable development.
• Standards and Coordination: Establishes national standards for land use, housing quality, and urban planning, ensuring consistency and compliance across all regions. The Ministry also coordinates activities and initiatives among various stakeholders, including government agencies, local authorities, and private sector partners.
• Sustainable Land Management: Promotes practices that ensure the sustainable use and management of land resources, addressing issues such as land tenure security, land use planning, and environmental conservation.
• Housing Promotion: Aims to provide sustainable housing solutions for all, focusing on improving housing conditions, reducing housing deficits, and enhancing access to affordable housing.
• Urban Development: Fosters orderly and planned urban growth, supporting infrastructure development, service delivery, and the creation of livable and resilient urban environment
